The Zaria Durbar is an event which is usually held on the 3rd day of Sallah. This year’s was like no other is has many international participants. thousands of people were seen in and around the ancient city of zaria, clapping and cheering for their Governor Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai and the Emir of Zaria Alhaji Shehu Idris.
The Durbar is a custom dating back more than 1,000 years which involves warriors from villages and towns in Nigeria’s Muslim north traveling once a year to the emir’s palace to renew a pledge of respect to their ruler.
The Zaria Durbar is an event-rich cultural display of the great city of Zazzau, from men displaying their horse riding skills, to those very skilled in fire play and lots more.
Noteworthy, was how the people of Zaria welcomed their Governor with standing ovation, the love for Mallam Nasiru Ahmad El-Rufai cannot be quantified by man. see pictures after the cut…
